Chapter 1:1-12
This section primarily deals with Peter encouraging his readers to remember the great salvation in which they have been adopted into as members of God’s family. The imagery and language is rich and detailed. As you read through this section, be reminded of the hope we have through Jesus and the empowering the Holy Spirit brings to all of God’s Family.

In this section, Peter encourages his readers to think of themselves through the lens of the Old Testament Exodus story. He recalls passages from Leviticus, Isaiah and Jeremiah to encourage them to remember Jesus as their ultimate Passover Lamb.

In this section Peter is reminding his readers of their position in God. They are not only God’s Dwelling Place here on earth, but also ministers to God and the world around them. This calls them to live a life worthy of that position - in action and belief systems.

In this section, Peter is calling on his readers to evaluate their freedom. They are called to live motivated by the Spirit to honor the Lord in all they do, while also attempting to live at peace (as much as it depends on them) to the potentially hostile world they find themselves in. Ultimately, Christ is the perfect example.

In this section Peter is calling his readers to live honorably among all interpersonal relationships and be willing to give an account for the way in which they live their lives.

In this section, Peter is encouraging his readers to utilize their Spirit-empowered giftings, not only for the Glory of God, but also for the building up of the body. This is essential in light of persecution, and how we are called to model the life of Jesus to the community around us

In this section, Peter closes by giving his readers powerful imagery and wisdom to the elders of the churches. He is reminding them of keeping their eyes on the True Shepherd of the Church.

Chapter 1:12-21
In this section, Peter is beginning his “farewell letter” to remind his readers of their eternal destiny. He is wanting them to stay faithful and utilizes his own testimony, with that of prophecy to establish his case among prevalent false teachings of the day

In this section, Peter gives his readers a strong warning regarding false teachers. He describes their characteristics, and their judgment to come.

In this section, Peter is gives a promise of God’s imminent return to those who remain faithful. A new life and creation in unhindered relationship to God Himself through the Blood of Jesus. He reminds us that God is not on our timetable, but He is sure to finish His work.
