Introduction to Hebrews

The Letter to the Hebrews is one of the most intriguing Epistles in the New Testament. Due in part to its mysterious origins, authorship and recipients. It is full of sound doctrinal teaching and acts as a bridge from some of the most powerful imageries in the Old Testament.

Hebrews Chapter 1

The ancient Hebrew world had an extremely high view of Angels and their activity in History. This chapter primarily deals with the author giving biblical background on Jesus’s position as God Himself, and therefore over all creation (including Angels).

Hebrews Chapter 2a

In this chapter, we see the author of Hebrews creating a case for the supremacy of Jesus to offer salvation to humanity. He calls his readers to grasp Jesus as fully Divine and yet the importance of His humanity also.

Hebrews Chapters 2b & 3 (cont).

This chapter largely deals with Jesus’s place over Moses as the giver of the Law. The Jewish people elevated Moses because of his significant relationship with God and his leadership to Israel, but the writer of Hebrews wants his readers to see how Jesus supersedes even that of Moses because of the New Covenant.

Hebrews Chapter 4

This chapter continues the author’s defense of Jesus as the High Priest over Humanity, including Israel (for those who receive Him). The imagery of the Exodus is utilized to illustrate how we are to enter into the Rest of God.

Hebrews Chapter 5

This chapter and insight will inspire our relationship with God and strengthen our faith. We will discover the importance of obedience to God's will, the significance of Jesus' role as our high priest, and the consequences of not maturing in our spiritual journey. Hebrews Chapter 6

Hebrews Chapter 6 is a continuation of the author's teachings on the significance of Jesus as the High Priest over Humanity. In Hebrews Chapter 8, the author continues to explore the superiority of Jesus Christ's ministry and covenant over that of the Old Testament. The chapter specifically focuses on the new covenant that Christ has established, which is superior to the old covenant. Hebrews Chapter 10

Hebrews Chapter 11

Hebrews Chapter 11 is often called the “Hall of Faith" as it highlights the faith of many figures from the Old Testament. The chapter starts by defining faith and its importance in pleasing God. The author of Hebrews encourages the readers to follow in the footsteps of these faithful individuals and trust in God's promises, even in the face of adversity. The chapter concludes by emphasizing the importance of faith in Jesus Christ as the ultimate fulfillment of God's promises.
